Ash Catcher

The ash catcher pipe started here in 2002: an inward cone at the mouthpiece that traps ash before it reaches you. Imitations with a shallow dimple appeared around 2006. Ours still use the deeper, wider cone.

How the Trap Works

The mouthpiece is pushed inward to form a cone. Smoke flows around it, while heavier ash falls into the cone instead of following the air to your mouth. Our cone is deeper and wider than the shallow dimple used on imitations, so it holds more before you need to tap it out.

The same trap is built into spoons, Lawnchair and Laid Back Sherlocks, the Gandalf and Aragorn's long stems, a chillum, a steamroller, the Slugger and the Loop. Read the story of the original Ash Catcher.

About the Ash Catcher

Is an Ash Catcher pipe the same as an ash catcher for a bong?

No. A bong ash catcher is a separate attachment between bowl and bong. Ours is built into the mouthpiece of a hand pipe.

Did Chameleon Glass invent the ash catcher pipe?

We introduced our Ash Catcher design in 2002, and copies began appearing around 2006.

Does the trap restrict airflow?

No. Smoke passes around the cone, so the draw feels like a normal pipe.

How do I empty the ash trap?

Tap it out, then rinse it during your normal soak. Debris collects in the cone, so it comes out easily.
