Over the 20+ years Chameleon Glass has manufactured glass pipes, I have cycled thousands of people through my shop that should have never spent one minute behind a torch. Not to come anywhere near saying they were bad people—it’s just that you have to be cut out for what we do here and having people see if they like glassblowing is a huge waste of time and resources at a time of scarce resources driven by cheap Chinese and Indian knock off competitors.
We didn’t get here by not knowing how to transact our business. We’re not for everybody, but for those who understand, (and can read through my long-windedness) there is always room to grow and prosper as part of our strange little family.
Direct Employment on Chameleon Glass Payroll (Phoenix, AZ)
I’m not going to beat around the bush with you; it’s a grueling, hot, sweaty, cut-the-shit-out-of-your-finger, burn-the-shit-out-of-the-same-finger-the-next-day, make-the-same-piece-over-and-over-and-over kind of job. You can make better money, faster, in the short term, flipping burgers at In-N-Out. Glassblowing does not happen overnight and it definitely ain’t a desk job.
I think the joke goes this way: I was told there would not be any math. Well, no joke, there is math, and reading. If you can get through this read, you’ll probably fit right in because you’d actually rather know this stuff up front, rather than finding out over time. The answer to your first question is Yes, we accept subcontract work.
