Wood Grain Glass Pipes

These pipes look like carved wood but are all borosilicate glass. The grain comes from colored glass rods and frit worked into lines, then shaped while the pattern is still soft.

Four pieces carry the pattern: the Gandalf Woody long-stem, the briar-style Stryder, the corn-cob-shaped Ash Catcher Cobb and the Louisville Hitter baseball bat. More classic shapes are in briar pipes.

Is wood grain glass made from wood?

No. It is all glass. The pattern only looks like wood.

How is the wood grain pattern made?

Colored glass rods and frit are layered in lines, then shaped while the glass is still workable, so the stripes stretch into a grain.

Does wood grain glass need special cleaning?

No. It cleans like any other glass pipe.
