We’ve been selling Gandalfs ever since and have several colors to choose from and even a few different functional designs like our Hash, Ash Catcher and Mag Tech editions. By chance, I noticed some unusual behavior of water while I was cleaning mine. Enough water was left in the pipe after a rinse that airflow was blocked. If I inhaled through the pipe, the water always returned to block the airflow, which is how a Natural Percolator works.
Problem was, the surface tension of water caused it to climb (even the steep neck of a Gandalf) and end up in my mouth. Yuck. I broke out my old fluid dynamics book and then cross referenced it against my Scientific Apparatus books. I found that a simple in line bubble would break the surface tension and cause the water to fall back against gravity into the air flow. Call me Bandobras.

Unlike traditional bowls, this one eliminates the bottom hole and incorporates vents near the rim, allowing for an unparalleled hash smoking experience. Shipped with a quartz hot stick, simply place a chunk in the bowl, heat the ball end of the hot stick, and gently push it into the chunk, causing it to melt and vaporize. The cleverly positioned vent holes ensure that no vapors escape the bowl, delivering maximum flavor and potency.
Call it dabbing if you want to, but Chameleon has been making vented bowls long before extracts, rigs and pens were popularized. Then and Now, this method of enjoying concentrate (hash/rosin/live resin) is superior to both pens and rigs. Here’s why: Heat source. A vented bowl allows You to control how long heat is applied, how much cannabis you want to heat AND You can carb a vented bowl because it remains cool to the touch.
Instead of introducing your concentrate to the heat, Chameleon introduces heat to the concentrate….and then removes it. Once your concentrate is dropped into a heated quartz nail, there’s no going back and there is no carbing it either; that nail is hot and stays untouchable hot for some time. That means you better get the amount of cannabis correct and you’d better be able to take all of it down at once with no ambient air from a carb. Otherwise, the excess sits in the bottom of the bucket and sizzles into a bitter pool of waste. A nail is not a bowl. You will not be able to pull that super heated quartz nail out to clear the piece like a normal water pipe. Nor will you be able to put a lighter over the top to stop the burn; nails just sizzle until they cool off.
With a Quartz Hot Stick, the process is much more like flower. Heat the Hot Stick (light your lighter), apply the heated hot stick to the cannabis concentrate (use the lighter to apply heat to your bowl of flower), inhale (inhale), remove hot stick from cannabis (extinguish lighter). Oh no! There’s still concentrate in the bowl! Relax, not a problem, you removed the heat. That concentrate is fine to leave for your next sesh…now, in 15 minutes, in an hour or tomorrow because it’s not sizzled off in a nail.
