The Polka Dot Glass Pipe is decorated with lively colors reminiscent of the dance they are named for. The eastern European term 'Pulka', or half, refers to the small steps involved in the dance. The dots came later when the dance became popular enough to cause competitions. Colored dots were placed on the dance floor in an effort to keep track of dancers during the competition so judges could grade the performance. Competitors often wore the same colored cloth dots pinned to their clothes to make it easier to follow them on the dance floor. Enterprising fashionistas began sewing the dots to their clothes to avoid issues from the pins while they were dancing.
