Glass Domes & Accessories

Glass domes are specialized components used with compatible glass setups. Chameleon Glass offers dome products and related accessories in its tools and parts collection.

What's a Dome For, and Do I Need One?

Domes cover a nail to trap vapor for a dab hit — if you already have a rig and a nail but no dome, this is very likely the missing piece you searched for. Older-style dab setups rely on a dome-and-nail combination rather than the more modern banger-and-carb-cap style.

Dome-and-Nail vs. Banger-and-Carb-Cap — Which Setup Is Better?

This is a genuine ongoing debate people search before buying. Dome-and-nail setups are generally considered the older style, with the dome trapping vapor over an open nail. Banger-and-carb-cap setups are more modern and widely used now, generally offering better flavor and easier temperature control. If you're building a new setup from scratch, banger-and-carb-cap is the more common current recommendation; if you already own a nail and just need the matching piece, a dome is still a functional, valid choice.

Does My Dome Need to Match My Nail's Joint Size?

Yes — same rule as every other joint-dependent part in this catalog. A dome needs to match both the joint size (10mm, 14mm, 18mm) and the joint gender of the nail it's pairing with, or it won't seal properly and vapor will escape instead of being trapped for inhalation.

FAQ

Do I need a dome if I already have a nail?

If your setup uses an old-style open nail rather than a banger, yes — the dome traps vapor that would otherwise escape.

Is a dome-and-nail setup outdated?

Not outdated, but less common now — banger-and-carb-cap setups are the more modern standard, generally offering easier temperature control.

Does the dome need to match my nail's size?

Yes — joint size and gender both need to match, the same rule that applies to bowls and downstems.
