I developed the Monsoon perc in 2005 after I was stuck under my sink working on plumbing issues. The drain in your sink is simple technolgy referred to as a ‘P’ trap. It works with gravity to keep a water boundary between You and the stinky sewer. The difference between your sink and a Monsoon is the position of the water. In your sink, water is pushed into the drain, then through. In a Monsoon, the water is inside already and air is pulled through. It is the same principle of surface tension. We just reversed the order from water/air/water to air/water/air. Sink = Fluid Dynamics, Monsoon = Aero Dynamics.
