Vapor Trail Glass Pipe

Boom! Airborne and accelerating, the rocket just passed Mach 1 as it climbs into the clouds. Super heated exhaust billows from the boosters leaving a trail of vapor swirling in the turbulence while the gyros point the bird into the stratosphere.

The inspiration for the design was a Falcon lift off from Vandenberg at sunset in Phoenix. Bright Blue open sky fading to Deep Cobalt in the East, while the exhaust plume appeared to erupt from the Orange and Pink haze in the West, streaking eastward, perched at the leading edge of a spectacular Vapor Trail. That trail was filled with things to see, first was Thing 1, then 2 then Thing Three. Was it the cap that caused me to see, or maybe twas the trail itself that caused it to be?

Functional

The Vapor Trail Glass Pipe is fabricated on 38mm X 4mm Pyrex tube using inside out / double blown technique. Colored borosilicate rods are sleeved in clear and added to the interior. Between the clear, thickly sleeving the color and the depth / dimensionality created by the technique, this is one chunky piece.

Art

Silver fume is added after the rod is placed to create color change to Blues and Greens. The sleeved color is spiraled down the length of the pipe and terminated in squiggle patterns for visual attraction. Technique is normally not considered Art, but the amazing depth and dimensionality from the inside out / double blown technique in conjunction with sleeving creates a stout glass pipe.
