Our Gandalf Natural Perc Glass Bubbler Pipe doesn’t require you to have a beard, but it sure looks good with one. Functionally, the Gandalf model took a while to perfect back in 2002, torches were not as well designed and glass was more brittle, so, the model really took some doing to get the gather and then the stretch to expand uniformly. I designed the -Gandalf Glass Pipe as a throwback to the classic pipe style that I fell in love with after LOTR débuted in 2001. The Gandalf Natural Perc Glass Bubbler Pipe is a new take on a venerated design.
We’ve been selling Gandalfs ever since and have several colors to choose from and even a few different functional designs like our Hash, Ash Catcher and Mag Tech editions. By chance, I noticed some unusual behavior of water while I was cleaning mine. Enough water was left in the pipe after a rinse that airflow was blocked. If I inhaled through the pipe, the water always returned to block the airflow, which is how a Natural Percolator works.
Problem was, the surface tension of water caused it to climb (even the steep neck of a Gandalf) and end up in my mouth. Yuck. I broke out my old fluid dynamics book and then cross referenced it against my Scientific Apparatus books. I found that a simple in line bubble would break the surface tension and cause the water to fall back against gravity into the air flow. Call me Bandobras.
