The Ash Catcher Glass Pipe is so named because of the indented mouthpiece. One of many Chameleon Glass innovations, first available in early 2002, this was one of the first! Our Gandalf Glass Pipe doesn’t require you to have a beard, but it sure looks good with one. Functionally, the model took a while to perfect back in 2002, torches were not as well designed and glass was more brittle, so, the model really took some doing to get the gather and then the stretch to expand uniformly. I designed the Gandalf Pipe as a throwback to the classic pipe style that I fell in love with after LOTR debutted in 2001. This piece has a long drop, which gives extra cooling space for your smoke. Coil condensers have been a staple of scientific glassblowing for years, but, they are typically very large. The coil provides a pathway for smoke to travel over the super cooled surface of the glass. The smoke is blast chilled and condensed prior to inhalation. Once the smoke passes out of the pipe, it offers a crisp pull that does not burn or irritate the throat and immediately begins to expand. Coil condensers have been a staple of scientific glassblowing for years, but, they are typically very large and meant for laboratory settings. Our coil is made with specially manufactured small diameter size glass tube. The small diamer allows us to shrink the apparatus to fit in your hand (and your freezer!) The special tubing is perfect to maximize heat transfer from your smoke to the chilled liquid inside the chamber. Other freezer pipes are bulky and use cheaper materials like mineral oil. The coefficient of expansion of these cheaper materials is significantly larger than the organic, plant based glycerin used by Chameleon. The Ash Catcher Glass Pipe is so named because of the indented mouthpiece. One of many Chameleon Glass innovations, first available in early 2002, this was one of the first! By indenting the mouthpiece, anything heavier than air (ash, particulate or any solids) is pulled down by the natural effect of gravity, misses the mouthpiece hole and is deflected further downward to collect at the base of the indent. The Celestial Series Glass Water Pipe is available once again from Chameleon Glass. The Celestial Series Glass Water Pipe features intense wrap and rake technique over the entirety of the model. We call it fully worked. The throat of this water pipe features a technically difficult triple doughnut that redirects the smoke path against the glass to remove any leftover ash or particulate matter. Wrap describes how a very small strand of molten color is wrapped or reeled onto the glass. Think fishing line returning back onto a fishing rod. No small feat as each individual color behaves very differently than other colors in the exact same flame setting. The artist has to master not only the lathe operation standards for clear scientific, but also each and every individual color in the model design. Rake describes the process that uses a thicker clear rod to push and pull the wrapped color into unique patterns on the glass. The rake also creates awesome color change 'windows' between the colors while also creating brand new unintended colors. These new colors are created at the boundary of different colors. The Fuck China Glass Pipe is how I think about the business and societal practices of the leadership of the PRC. Immediately note that I refer to the government apparatus, not the human being who happen to inhabit the land we refer to as the PRC. I don't have an issue with the people. I DO have a personal issue with how our know how and good ideas get stolen and then used against us to eliminate whole swaths of industry. Utilizing labor costs at slavery levels for all manner of products, phones, jet engines, cars and yes, glass pipes, China wipes out any domestic competition and then installs their own distribution and jacks up the price. Unlike other low cost labor democracies (India), China is communist and has zero interest in a middle class. A middle class means higher labor rates. Higher labor rates means China will have to compete based on the merit of their own creativity and productivity. I'll be linking a blog post to this later. Local glass my foot. Yeah, yeah, I've heard it all. Store: Yeah Man, this piece is poppin. Me: Looks kinda importy, except the price of course. S: Naw Bruh, no imports here dude, totally like local, like, ya know, umm, Bob, yeah, yeah, Bob the Glassblower from like down the street. Me: Riiiiiiiight, whats their IG handle? S: Ummmmmm.... Listen folks, I got news for ya - 95% of glass pipes consumed in the USA are imported. Except for the max profit lies, those are domestic. Hear this: I don't have a problem with a store selling imported glass. I have a problem with a store selling import glass as Made in USA. Chinese Glass is a massive profit engine because while companies like Chameleon still exist, China dumps product into this country to eliminate domestic know how and production. Those insanely low costs are NOT passed on to the end customer. Rather, the Made in China sticker is removed and the imported glass is priced slightly lower than the American design that it was knocked off from, and then sold as Made in USA. What costs me $10 to MAKE is dumped into the US market for LESS THAN 1 DOLLAR. All things being equal, the lower priced item wins. Except it's not all things being equal, but I'll deal with that in the blog. You should not pay American Made prices for Chinese glass. You: Just look for that Made in USA sticker. For Real: Designed in Texas. Assembled in California. Shipped from NYC all mean one thing: Import. You want to buy USA? Great, look for the sticker that says what the importers don't dare say: Made in USA. Just like the one on the bottom of our Fuck China Glass Pipe. The Gandalf Ash Catcher Magnet Bowl Glass Pipe is so named because of the overall shape and the indented mouthpiece. By indenting the mouthpiece, anything heavier than air (ash, particulate or any solids) is pulled down by the natural effect of gravity, misses the mouthpiece hole and is deflected further downward to collect at the base of the indent. Ever done archery? Imagine a bow in your hand and an arrow ready to shoot. You have two targets. One is a funnel with the hole pointing away from you, the other has a funnel pointing at you.
